My Sister's Keeper

Last week on vacation I read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. The book was a very quick read and written well. The story takes place in Providence, Rhode Island in 2003. It is a story of a family and their struggle with cancer. Each chapter is written in the perspective of one of the characters. The book has been adapted into film, but the ending is different, so I am not sure how I am going to feel about it. My Sister's Keeper (film) was directed by Nick Cassavetes, the same director for the Notebook, which coincidentally has a different ending. Once we watch the movie I will give you an update. For those of you interested in giving this book a read, you can find it here in WorldCat

I think Jodi Picoult will quickly become one of my favorite authors. I just picked up Plain Truth from the public library and I am already running right through it.

Suncoast Information Specialists Presentation

On Tuesday February 15, 2011 I had planned to be part of a 4 person pannel to give a discussion on Google Sites. Due to a power outage I didn't get to present my powerpoint. I am attaching it below.

I am the webmaster for Florida State Court and County Law Libraries and used google sites to create our website for the organization. It was great and easy to use. Google has a ton of forums out there to get you started so take a look!

Far Out

Watched this awesome video today, Far Out - Heimo's Arctic Refuge on VBS.TV. It was so moving how Heimo and his wife life out in Alaska 150 miles above the Arctic circle. A journalist from VBS flew out there for a week to follow Heimo and his wife and get involved in their daily activities, what they do from day to day. Everything from skinning a bear to trapping beavers and rabbits to survive. Totally moving. Check it out 52 minutes.

The times are a changing

Well Steve and I just bought our first home. We are moving to Land O lakes Florida. Our new place has a big back yard for Sparty. Maybe Sparty will get a new brother or sister from Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida. Now we have to find out if Sparty likes the water. We have an in ground pool and can't wait to get him in there. We are moving from South Tampa to a more rural area up north, about 45 minutes from our current place. We will be further from our friends, but closer to Tara. All the painting is complete and Steve is off this week working on the other projects around the house. We are heading to Sarasota this weekend to visit with Nancy and Bill. They are kind enough to give us 2 wicker chairs and cabniet for our TV. We are very excited for the visit. Soon Mom and Dad will be down to visit and see Spartan and the house for the first time. The countdown is on!

Better Weather

It is finally starting to warm up down here in the Sunshine State. It is raining today, and Spartacus really didn't like it. Daylight savings this weekend so we will finally get longer days. We are walking about 3-5 miles a day, and when the sun is still out at 7:00, we will have some longer walks! Spartacus is doing well. He loves chasing squirrels and walking around the pond here at the complex. Here is the little guy on the bed I made in our room.

A new Family Member

Here is Spartacus! What a great little guy, he had a rough start to life, but he has already brought so much joy into ours. Sparty was rescued from a rural area in Live Oak Florida. Lab rescue found him tied to a tree with a seat buckle. Once he was saved, the vet had to surgically remove his collar. He is doing well now, cute as ever. Here is a picture of him on the way from his first trip to the vet. He doesn't like getting in the car, or going up the stairs. But he loves to cuddle and to have his tummy rubbed.

Saturday Activities

Yesterday I heard my turn signal make a faster noise. So I know what that means, time to change the bulb. Steve drove me to Advanced Auto Parts to pick up a new bulb. I came home and totally fixed it myself. So thanks to my Dad, who always took care of our cars growing up, I can fix my own car today. It only took me 15 minutes! The fist time it took about an hour! Now to build my sewing table. Picked up a $20 put it together yourself from IKEA Just something big enough to fit my sewing machine and my rotary mat.
